Digital signage company Stratacache has commented on the way Quick Response (QR) codes can be integrated into retail signs, and has stated it will demonstrate the technology at the Shopper Marketing Expo in Chicago this week.

“QR codes are the future of in-store marketing,” says Chris Riegel, chief executive of Stratacache. “The ability to further open communication lines with consumers is vital to a retailer’s success – and QR codes embedded within digital signage are doing just that.”

QR codes, which are scannable 2D barcodes encrypted with large amounts of information, can be photographed by shoppers with their smartphones in order to receive coupons and additional product information. The application can influence purchasing decisions, as well as save businesses time and money which may otherwise be spent on printing coupons or promotional material, according to Stratacache.

The company is showcasing digital signage with QR codes at Shopper Marketing Expo today and tomorrow (October 6th and 7th), along with its digital signage software, ActiVia for Media. The software allows retailers to create, schedule, manage and monitor marketing messages from any web browser, as well as deliver real-time, targeted messages to specific locations.
